WHO WE ARE

We are a church family that welcomes everyone through our doors no matter what political affiliation, no matter what form of Christian thought you hold, no matter what you are welcome here in our family! That’s right we’re family here, as much as any family-seeking nothing but the best for its members. We may not always agree on everything, but what family does?

The important thing is, we love one another enough to forgive, respect differences, and continue to work and minister together, seeking to spread and live out the Gospel message of God’s love offered to this world in the form of our Savior, Jesus Christ the Lord! To this end we preach the Word, we speak oft of the Word, and we seek to live the Word in our lives.

WHAT WE BELIEVE

We believe in God – the Creator, Redeemer and Sustainer of our lives and this world. We believe in the Triune nature of God, that is God expressed in three distinct individuals, yet still impenetrably One in ultimate nature. Yes, I know this is rather difficult to fathom, let alone believe, but it is how we experience God. By your reading this, you’ve been created by God the Creator, by trusting in Jesus as Lord and Savior, you have experienced God as Redeemer, and in your walk with God and in your service to God and neighbor, you experience God the Sustainer.

We believe in the redemptive, restorative power of Christ’s death upon the cross. Jesus came down, as the Gospel of John says, as “the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the whole world.” Through the life he led, his teachings and his healings we learn what God’s plan for the world is: Redemption from our sins through his complete and perfect sacrifice, the supreme incarnation of God’s love for the world.

We believe in the power of the Holy Spirit as Sustainer to be God fully present and realized for us at each moment. The Holy Spirit is God present to give us wisdom, to move us to mission and service, to move us to prayer and praise while in this world. The Holy Spirit is what causes us to desire justice, peace, grace, healing and hope for this world, that we believe desperately needs them all.

We believe in the value and necessity of worshiping TOGETHER. That word is emphasized because as a church, CUMC, thought its members are quite diverse in their faith and beliefs, nevertheless come together in unity to worship, to give God praise, and to support one another.

We believe that the church that is relevant and makes a difference reaches out in mission and ministry to the community and the whole world. Our church has sent missional teams out to help with Biloxi, twice, and our youth have been actively engaged with UMARMY (United Methodist Action Reach-out in Mission for Youth) for nine years. There are ample opportunities to be a part of our church’s desire to touch hearts and lives in the name of Jesus.

We believe that all people from all walks of life are welcome to our church to worship and fully participate in its ministries. And we believe that all means ALL. No matter your worth, your experiences, your knowledge of the Bible or lack thereof, no matter your social standing, your lifestyle, your sexual orientation, your color, your gender, your age, etc. – you are welcome, and will be welcomed here.
